Isn't it always the way .....
Apart from promoting The fancy rat as the super pet it is I also like to work on old varieties.
These are very very important as the foundation of all the different rats today.
I tend to work on the Pearls and at the moment trying to work with my cream.
Having had rats for so long I am really proud of my reputation.
Sadly seems like the area has been inundated with" farmed rats" ...
Bred for trade, be it reptile or pet.
Never handled or socialized.
I have just looked after some "farmed rats" now pets.
My rats are super confident as they grow up.
They actively seek our attention!
Even when food is put down most of mine will come to the door and wait for a cuddle each and hand fed treat, then they will go down and eat.
Farmed rats... hide.... wait til last and seek no attention.
Scared of most things and even months of handling still flighty and don't seek out human companionship.
They have been handled and given the same care as my guys.
Have to laugh at mine as super intelligent!!
I have 3 week olds sussing stuff out and problem solving.
Farmed rats.... no interest at all.
All babies go through a mad bouncy stage, but as adults they just seem depressed!!!
Mine just seem to bounce through life .
I really now believe they need that early socialization with other rats (elders) and humans.
As with any animal from a dog to a rat the more you put in the more you get out..... but the early life counts.
